Privacy Policy
HelloMeds
Last Updated: May 14, 2026
Introduction
HelloMeds (“the App”) is a medication tracking application developed by Juliana Gaibler and open source contributors (“we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles your information.
Our philosophy is “local-first”: we believe your data belongs on your device, under your control, and nowhere else.
Summary
HelloMeds does not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data. All information you enter is stored exclusively on your device. The App has no user accounts, no cloud sync, no advertising, and no tracking.
Information You Provide
When you use HelloMeds, you may enter information including medication names, dosages, schedules, and intake history. All of this information is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party.
Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Personal identifying information (name, email, phone number)
- Device identifiers or location data
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Data from external platforms (e.g., Apple Health)
Note: The app stores (Google Play and Apple App Store) may provide us with aggregated, anonymous statistics such as download counts or opt-in crash reports. This data is governed by the respective store’s privacy policy and does not contain anything you’ve entered into HelloMeds.
Camera Usage (Optional)
HelloMeds includes an optional feature for detecting medication information from packaging labels using your device’s camera. This feature is opt-in and the app works fully without it.
Image and text processing runs on your device using your platform’s APIs (Google ML Kit on Android, Apple’s Vision framework on iOS). HelloMeds does not send your images or scans to any server. However, by using these features, you are subject to your platform provider’s privacy practices:
- Android (Google ML Kit): ML Kit runs on-device but may contact Google servers for model updates and technical diagnostics. The images themselves are not sent to Google. See the Google Privacy Policy. (Note: The F-Droid release of HelloMeds ships without this feature).
- iOS (Apple Vision & Apple Intelligence): Processing runs on-device. For certain complex requests, Apple may use Private Cloud Compute, where data is not stored or accessible to Apple, according to them. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Data Storage and Security
- Encryption: All data is stored in an encrypted database on your device using industry-standard AES-256 encryption. The encryption key is managed by your device’s secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) and is never accessible to us.
- Backups: If you choose to export a backup, you may optionally protect it with a passphrase using strong cryptographic standards. Backup files are saved only to a location you select.
- Access: We have no ability to access, read, or recover your data, encryption keys, or backup passphrases.
Data Sharing and Retention
We do not share your data with anyone. Because your data is stored locally, it persists only as long as the App is installed.
- You can delete individual records or all data within the App settings.
- Uninstalling the App will remove all data stored by the App on your device.
Notifications
HelloMeds uses local notifications for medication reminders. These are generated entirely on your device and are never routed through external servers. You can manage these at any time via the App or system settings.
International Users (GDPR & CCPA)
EEA and United Kingdom
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), HelloMeds is designed as a local-only tool. Because we do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on our servers, we do not act as a “Data Controller” for any data you enter into the App.
The App is built to empower you to exercise your rights locally:
- Access, Rectification, & Portability: You can view, edit, and export all your data via the App’s interface.
- Erasure: You can delete your data at any time by clearing the App data or uninstalling the App.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
HelloMeds does not collect, use, store, sell, or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. You maintain total control over your data locally on your device.
Children’s Privacy
HelloMeds does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not transmit any data to us, there is no risk of inadvertent collection of children’s data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App’s features. The “Last Updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revisions.
